ABOUT / Artist Statement

There are many areas of art that I enjoy working with such as photography, printmaking and collage work. Each area of art is heavily influenced by process. I like to experiment and explore new areas in my work but 2D art making is my passion. My work is usually more about the process or technique of how it’s made. When I create work I like to think of the physical process that I endure. When I talk about the physical aspect I’m referring to materials that I use or the construction behind a sculpture. I also tend to think of myself as a problem solver while I work. The problem is a blank piece of paper or canvas and my job as an artist is to fix that problem. Whether it’s with paint or a pencil I have to learn and manipulate the medium to work to my advantage. I want to make the viewer forget that the piece is just a painting or a drawing but to ask the question; how did she do that?

Some of the work I like to do is very abstract and experimental.  I like to explore new mediums such as water or snow, which are non-traditional mediums. I also enjoy learning new things when I explore new mediums or processes that influence me. All materials appeal to me, even none type mediums or objects that help me broaden my horizon. I enjoy processes that change or evolve, like mixing paint and a cup of water.

Creating is how I express myself as an artist. Art is my form of expression and I’m unable to imagine a life without it. My work allows me to express my feelings that words cannot describe. I enjoy the fact that my art work can be interpreted in many different ways depending on the perspective of the viewer. I am inspired by my personal experiences and the artists in the past, present, and future. I am also inspired by the form of repetition and movement. I’m fascinated with multiple forms that are simple and can make something so beautiful and complex, at the same time.

My goals as an artist are to continue creating, further my education and become very knowledgeable of the art world around me. I enjoy taking risks that explore my strengths and weaknesses. Failing and succeeding as my work continues to grow. I want to challenge my skills to create strong and bright works that will endure and create a sense of wonder when looked upon.
